How do I manage Spam emails?

MagicMail is our email system/server for @garlic.com, @vfr.net, and @svinet.com email accounts. There are a couple of ways to manage spam, but the simplest would be going to https://webmail.garlic.com/ and logging into MagicMail using your full email address and email password.

Once logged into MagicMail, you’ll see a few menu options on the left-hand side. One of them is Webmail. Click on that and you’ll be asked to choose which type: Webmail Lite or Tuxedo. They both have the same functions, but visually they are a bit different. It’s a personal preference, but most customers seem to go with Webmail Lite.

Whichever one you click on, you’ll then be taken to your web-based email. One of the mail folders on the left is called Spam. This is where all email is placed that MagicMail thinks might be spam. We recommend checking this folder periodically to make sure there aren’t any legitimate emails in there that aren’t spam as emails in the Spam folder are automatically removed after 15 days. If there is an email that isn’t spam, you can click on the message to highlight it and then click on the Allow Sender button at the top next to Reply, Forward, Delete, etc. This will add the sender’s email address to your Whitelist and move that email out of the Spam folder and into your Inbox.

The Allow Sender button will change to Block Sender when you are viewing messages in your Inbox. If there’s an email in the Inbox that is spam, select the message and click the Block Sender button. This will add the sender’s email address to your Blacklist and remove it from your Inbox and flag it as spam.

Back on the main MagicMail screen, there is Spam Management on the left-hand side menu. This is where you can manually add/remove an email address, domain, or Subject to the Whitelist or Blacklist. Click on Spam Management, then on the right-side under the green Enabled button click on the Show More link. This will open up the Spam Lists that you can edit. Clicking on each one will open them up to let you view what’s currently on your list and to add a new email address, domain, or Subject to the list.

Under the Spam Management menu is also a Quarantine Mail option which will show you a list of emails in Spam. You can click the Subject of one of the emails on the list to open it, and then you’ll have the Action option of “Whitelist and Deliver” which will add the sender’s email address to your Whitelist and move it to your Inbox, “Deliver Normally” which will move it to your Inbox but not add it to your Whitelist, and "Delete Permanently which will delete it.

Email clients/apps like Outlook, Thunderbird, MacMail, etc handle “Junk” or “Spam” emails a bit differently. They typically do have a Spam folder that corresponds to the same emails that are in the Spam folder in Magic Mail, but marking it as “not junk” or “not spam” does not tell the MagicMail server that it’s spam. We recommend checking your Spam folder in MagicMail periodically.

As for the other Magic Mail options like My Email Options, Security Options, Manage Mailboxes, etc, we recommend leaving everything at their default settings. If you have any questions about any of them, please give us a call and one of our techs will be happy to help.
